Ainsley cooks up a stir on North Coast

TOP TV chef Ainsley Harriott paid a frying visit to North Antrim last week.

The Ready Steady Cook host was filming for an upcoming BBC series on the Causeway Coast.

And he stopped in at Ballycastle for fish and chips - ordering SEVEN fish suppers for himself and his crew.

But staff at Morton's chippy are clearly no fans of Harriott's cookery shows as they failed to recognise the distinctive chef.

With his shiny head and protruding eyes, Harriott, 57, is one of TV's most famous faces.

He's sold more than two million cook books around the world and his TV series are regularly watched by millions.

But the chip shop workers blanked him as he took his place in the queue for his cod suppers.

One staff member said: "One of the girls said it looked like him but we just dismissed her. We didn't think there was any chance it would be him in Ballycastle.

"It was only after he left that we realised it must have been because the guys he was with had TV cameras with them.

"He ordered seven cod suppers and drinks for him and the guys he was with. He just waited for his food in the shop like everyone else."

Harriott made the stop-off in Ballycastle after a day filming on the Causeway Coast, at the Giant's Causeway and Carrick-a-rede rope bridge.

He's not the first famous face to be drawn to Morton's for their take-away dinner.

Last summer, world famous dance music star Fatboy Slim picked up some fish and chips on a stop-off in the town and flamboyant TV designer Laurence Llewelyn Bowen has also dined at the harbour-based chippy.
