Airfield Road abandoned

A SECTION of road leading from the City of Derry Airport across the Londonderry to Belfast railway line to Lough Foyle is to be abandoned by Roads Service.

The narrow track near the airport is already closed and the Department of Regional Development (DRD) has given notice it intends abandoning the road because it is not currently being used by traffic.

Anyone objecting to the roads abandonment has until May 22 to lodge their objections with Roads Service.

DRD states: "The Department of Regional Development (DRD), being of the opinion that the road is not necessary for road traffic, proposes to make an order, under Article 68 of the Roads (NI) Order 1993, the effect of which would be to abandon a length of Airfield Road Lower, Donnybrewer commencing at point 200 metres north of its junction with Lower Airfield Road extending for 506 metres in a northerly direction, including the level crossing."

A map of the road and the abandonment order may be inspected by any person free of charge at all reasonable hours until May 22 at the Department's Roads Service Offices in Belfast and Coleraine.
