Alcohol ‘code of practice’

An Alcohol Code of Practice has been launched to help tackle the problem of underage drinking in the Carrickfergus borough.

The initiative is being rolled out across the D District group of PCSPs (Policing and Community Safety Partnerships).

The Code of Practice aims to assist staff in local off-licences by preventing the sale of alcohol to under 18s and to those who attempt to purchase alcohol for underage people.

It is hoped that this will help to promote the responsible sale of alcohol which, in turn, should reduce underage drinking, and associated problems such as anti-social behaviour. Local businesses were invited to sign up to the Code of Practice at an event in the Town Hall this week.
