Alex jumps for charities

Alex from Headlands Avenue donned his parachute and took to the skies last Saturday (September 22) to help raise funds for three worthwhile charities.

“This was a once in a lifetime challenge,” explained Alex. “Despite people telling me I was ‘not wise’, I was even more determined to do it! In this day and age you have to do something mad to get people to donate their hard earned cash.”

After a day’s intensive training and weeks of hard work fundraising, thanks to his wife Gwen, Alex has succeeded in raising £1,647 - and more money is coming in.

“The jump never bothered me. I’m not really scared of heights and so I just got on with it,” Alex added.

“I was doing a tandem and my instructor was absolutely brilliant. After we jumped out I felt abit disorientated because we were free falling for a while. But then my instructor told me where things were and I could then enjoy the view. You could pretty much see the whole of Northern Ireland from each direction.

“All the money raised is going to three charities and I will announce them at a later date but lets just say they are extremely worthwhile and close to my heart. Money is still to come in and so I’m keeping the fundraising open for another week.

“I’m delighted that my family were there on the day to see me jump. I would also like to thank my instructor who’s from Ballymoney, Freddie Lafferty for collecting and all those who donated so generously - my friends and family have been great. Finally I’d just like to say a massive thanks to my wife Gwen for all her hard work and tremendous patience.”
