Ali was highly respected

Mr John Alan Anderson passed away at Seapatrick Care Home on Monday March 31.

He was the dearly loved husband of Eileen from 43 Mount Charles, Banbridge and the devoted father of Alan and Trevor.

Ali as he was affectionately known, was in his 80th year.

Alan was brought up in the town and was highly respected by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.

After leaving school he went to work in Fergusons Edenderry Factory and then moved to Ferguson Franklins Factory on the Scarva Road after the Edenderry closure.

He was a member of Scarva Street Presbyterian Church 1st Banbridge Company of the Boys Brigade and here found much pleasure at comradeship and found a great sense of belonging to the company when he joined the ranks of ‘Old Boys’ to celebrate their 60th Anniversary.

He was a keen footballer and played on the wing for The Boys Club. He was greatly interested in the fortunes of Spurs in England.

He married Miss Eileen Bell from Portadown and they enjoyed married life together.

He was a member of Holy Trinity Parish Church of which his son Trevor is Verger.

He is survived by his wife Eileen, sons Alan (Gilford) and Trevor (Banbridge), daughters-in-law Kim and Brenda, grandchildren Jane, Robert and Joy, brother Leonard (Banbridge) and sister Iris (England). To these and all other relatives sincere sympathy has been extended.

The funeral took place from his home for a service in Holy Trinity Parish Church which was largely attended. Archdeacon Roderic West and the Rev Rosie Diffin officiated at the home, church and graveside and were assisted in the church by Captain Geoffrey Walmsley and Dr Rory Corbett.

The hymns ‘What a friend we have in Jesus’, ‘Will your anchor hold’ and ‘Abide with me’ were sung. Mr Roly Anketel presided at the organ.

The interment took place afterwards in the New Cemetery. Family flowers were placed on the grave and donations in lieu of flowers are being sent to William Bell and Co Funeral Directors, 23 Kenlis Street, Banbridge, BT32 3LR for Holy Trinity Parish Church.

William Bell and Co had charge of the funeral arrangements.
