All roads lead to Truckfest

The event showcased the road haulage industry with manufacturers showing off their latest models to the public.

Truckers also entered some of their vehicles in search of glory at this year’s event.

This year’s main arena events included Nigel Morris’ Monster Truck Bigfoot 17 going head to head with JR Adam’s Bigfoot 10 all the way from America. There were also thrilling displays from Stunt Bike Team, Broke FMX. Nigel Morris also brought along his passenger ride truck giving people the change to see what it’s like to get an adrenaline rush at 5mph.

This year was the first time ever that two Bigfoot Monster Trucks were in the same arena for the show and Nigel described how much he enjoys the Truckfest Ireland show.

“It’s always great to come over to Belfast, we seem to have a great reaction with the crowd every time we come, so for us it’s not really work we’re having fun,” he said.

Along with the truckers, it was also very much a family oriented day with celebrities, entertainment and a fun fair. Attending this year’s event, fresh from the hit US Reality TV Show, Lizard Lick Towing, Ronnie, Bobby and Johnny. Ronnie enjoyed an earlier event of Truckfest so much that he came over to this year’s Truckfest Ireland event. Lizard Lick Towing first premiered in 2011 and has since became one of the top five programs in America, with the UK following as the country with the second-most viewership.

Ronnie Shirley, who is a founder member of Lizard Lick Towing, described the audiences over here: “Every place I’ve been in the UK, the fans are just phenomenal, they’re polite, they’re nice, they’re thankful, they’re appreciative…and that speaks a lot for Truckfest, for the type of people they bring out.”

A special appearance was also made on Sunday by TOWIE star, Joey Essex.

During the weekend, Hugo Duncan & Friends provided music and entertainment. Hugo is part of a truck run each July in Irvinestown, County Fermanagh, in which he also releases a Country CD for Marie Curie Cancer Care each year.

Hugo said: “It’s lovely to see so many people coming out here and supporting this Truckfest.”

He also described his love and the respect he has for truckers: “I always say coming up near Christmas time, think of the truckers because everything that’s sitting in your house, or sitting at your dinner table, it all came through them some way, so that’s why I have a lot of respect for them and admiration for them too”.

All this year’s celebrities, entertainment, family fun and trucking enthusiasts made this year’s Truckfest Ireland weekend an unforgettable experience.
