All Saints Caring Association makes appeal

All Saints Caring Association has appealed for help in gathering together all forms of memorabilia in connection with the Waterside-based church.

It is hoped to gather, collate, and archive relevant information connected with the story and history of All Saints Church, as well as the Stewart Memorial Hall and Stewart National School.

The Church hopes to use any old photographs, documents, stories, and any other information linked with the two sites to re-tell the story and history of both All Saints Clooney Church, and, the Stewart Hall in an interesting way using various modern technology like digital media including the web and photographs, as well as social media, audio, and in visual format including displays, exhibitions, storyboards, booklets, and information leaflets.

Caring Association

Recently All Saints Caring Association teamed up with Volunteer Now to make use of the ‘Millennium Volunteer’ programme, through which young people are given formal recognition for their hours spent volunteering in a variety of capacities.

The teenagers, aged 15 to 17, who surprised the organisers with their enthusiasm to help and keenness start.

Various organisations were contacted about the possibility of taking on a youth volunteer and meetings were held meetngs with the young people every few weeks which gave them the opportunity to talk about how they were getting on.

As the young people build up their hours they receive certificates for completing 50, 100 or 200 hours, and now the Caring Association has reached the stage where the youth volunteers were catching up on the number of adult volunteers.

The Association was fortunate to be involved with Youthlink again this year, and they are running the OCN Level 1 in youthwork. The Association now has seven of our own young people coming together with 10 others from around the city to complete this course. It involves a weekend of training and learning the foundations of youth work. They will then be split into smaller groups where they will have to plan and run an evening for a younger group in their area. They will be evaluated on their work and complete written components that will be assessed.
