All Saints Church is celebrating the future

AN AWARD of almost £600,000 to one of the Waterside's most recognisable churches has secured their ambitions to pursue a raft of programmes embedded in the local community.

All Saints Caring Association at Melrose Terrace, has received a grant of 586,125 from the International Fund for Ireland (IFI) much to the delight of everyone associated with the Church of Ireland organisation.

Grounded in the belief that church activity needs to extend into tackling issues of social need, the award will allow the Caring Association to create "neutral space" for all those in the area that require it on a local, cross community and cross border footing.

Rector of All Saints Church, Clooney, the Reverend Malcolm Ferry told the Sentinel: "All Saints Caring Association was born out of social conscience, as a vehicle for bringing this idea into reality. This is a shop front for the church. It was born because there is a lot of need out there."

Plans are also in train, not only to establish the Caring Association as an all encompassing venue to address social need, provide support and advice to all ages, but to fully restore the church's former social centre, the Stewart Memorial Hall on Glendermott Road.

First built as a National School in 1862, the Stewart Memorial Hall has a long and proud association with All Saints at Clooney. The restoration of the hall will also enable All Saints to continue its well established track record of social outreach programmes.
