All set for Kilcronaghan vintage rally

THE ninth annual Vintage Rally and Family Fun Day will be held on Saturday September 22 from 11am to 4pm at the Kilcronaghan Activity Centre, near Tobermore. Vintage exhibits will include tractors, cars, lorries, vans, motorbikes, stationary engines, bicycles, etc.

Indeed everything vintage will be welcome. There will be a full programme of events including family pet show, line dancing, Scottish and Irish dancing, children’s games, bouncy castle, etc.

A car boot sale will be running throughout the day and the event has become so successful that this year an extra field will be opened up for stalls. Rare and native breeds of cattle and sheep will be on display. As usual, a wide range of stalls, including crafts and home produce, will add to the festival atmosphere. Refreshments will be available to purchase and exhibitors will have a light lunch and a small souvenir included in their fee.

There will be many new attractions for 2012 – for example, a climbing wall will be available for the young-at-heart to test their agility – making this a great day out for young and old alike.

This year’s family pet show is being sponsored, and run by, “Paws on the Hill”. Prizes will be available for five different classes of dog. The organisers are hoping for favourable weather, so that the last of this season’s local vintage events will, once again, draw large crowds.

Last year there were over 220 vintage entries which really stretched the capacity of the facilities, so the advice is to come early to get the best position and take time to enjoy a full day browsing the stalls and exhibits. Extra car parking facilities will be available this year and full use will be made of the additional building which has been added to the complex since last year. Enquiries about the livestock displays should be directed to 07740100048, while all other details are available from 796 27826.

The fourth Saturday of September now marks one of the largest, and most diverse, community festival days in south Derry. The activities start from 11am but preparations will be in hand from early morning.
