Allister comments on stock car controversy

WITH Ballymena Raceway's season under threat, TUV leader Jim Allister has questioned if Ballymena Council has acted "with the consultation and fairness due to such a longstanding user of the Showgrounds facilities".

Mr Allister said: “Back in 2008, 20,000 was identified for spending under the council’s minor works programme to provide necessary spectator fencing and meet health and safety standards.

“Why was this expenditure deferred, knowing the adverse impact on health and safety requirements, and why as late as December 2009 was the Council agreeing dates for stock car use in 2010, only now to suddenly decree it can’t proceed?

“I do not think this is how a long-term tenant should be treated,” said Mr Allister.
