Delivered in partnership with Tesco, Diabetes UK said 40 people out of the 90 seen on the day are in danger of being diagnosed with the condition and referred them to their GP for further tests.

The charity’s Northern Ireland volunteer development manager, Heather Causer, said: “We are very concerned that so many people in Cookstown are at risk of Type 2 diabetes. This is a serious health condition that, left untreated or poorly managed, can lead to potential devastating complications such as blindness, amputation and stroke.

“The fact that the number of people living with Type 2 diabetes in Northern Ireland continues to increase year-on-year is a clear sign urgent action is needed.”
