Altnagelvin Uni status

THE quality of education provided for medical students at the Western Health and Social Care Trust’s (Western Trust) Altnagelvin Hospital has been recognised with the award of University Teaching Status for the hospital.

Queen’s University Belfast has designated seven acute hospitals across Northern Ireland with university teaching status, in recognition of their provision of high quality clinical placements for medical students.

Dr William Dickey has been appointed as educational sub-dean for medical undergraduates in the Western Trust to lead the delivery of the undergraduate clinical educational programme within the Trust.

Dr Dickey said: “The creation of the Western Trust Sub-deanery is an important step in the development of the long-standing relationship between the hospital and Queen’s University. As well as strengthening links between Altnagelvin and Queen’s, it recognises the commitment and enthusiasm of medical staff in training the next generation of doctors.”

Vice-Chancellor of Queen’s University Professor Peter Gregson congratulated Altnagelvin Hospital on its new status.
