Alvin Nicholl a big well done and thankyou

ALVIN Nicholl from Ballycastle decided to take up a challenge to run his first marathon before he turns 50.

Twenty-five years ago (1987) Alvin completed the McArthur Half Marathon so when he heard the McArthur Marathon was being organised this year he decided this was the race for him.

This was quite a task given that Alvin had not done any form of running since 1987.

One of the reasons behind this challenge was the death of his mother to breast cancer at a very early age nearly 23 years ago.

Over the years he has lost many friends and family to cancer and his aunt Rosie and most recently good friends Mary Walsh and Oliver Elliott.

Alvin always said he would like to raise some money for a charity and 23 years on and he has raised a phenomenal £6,900 for Marie Curie Moyle. Alvin’s hard work and determination were evident when he sailed over the finish line in 47th position with an impressive time of 3hr 48min, but even more impressive is the amount of money raised in such a short space of time… Thanks Alvin!
