Alvin’s marathon efforts for Marie Curie

Alvin Nicholl resides in the Ballintoy area and has decided to take up the challenge to run his first marathon before he turns the grand age of the big 50 later this year.

He purchased a pair of running shoes two years ago and they never got out of the box until January this year!

Back in 1987 (25 years ago) Alivin took part in and completed the McArthur Half Marathon and as it is being held on 21st July this summer he has decided to take up the challenge to compete.

This is going to be quite a task as he hasn’t taken park in any running since 1987.

Alvin always did talk about fundraising for charity and has got in touch with the committee of the Ballycastle branch of Marie Curie Cancer care to get sponsorship sheets, collection boxes and everything he will need to start fundraising.

All money raised will help people and their families who know only too well what cancer can do.

£20 pays for a Marie Curie nurse for 1hour in a patient’s home.

£130 would pay for attendance at a day therapy unit for one day in a Marie Curie hospice.

£180 pays for a full nine hour shift for a Marie Curie nurse in a patients home.

£435 pays for the cost of caring for an in-patient in a Marie Curie hospice for a day.

This money does not go directly to the nurses on the ground but every penny helps the charity.

People have been very generous to Alvin since they have seen him pounding the roads and streets to boost his strength and so far he has raised over £3000 with some more money pledged!

So keep it up and help him raise the balance further.

He is being supported by his wife Carol, brother in-law Alaster, sister in-law Hazel and all his friends.

If you would like to help Alvin with sponsorship or to pledge money Alvin can be contacted on 07835719160.
