Alzheimer's group '˜determined to make the most of their lives'

An active group of people living with dementia '“ as well as their carers '“ have been welcomed as special guests to the Mayor's Parlour in Carrickfergus Town Hall,

The Mayor of Mid and East Antrim Borough, Councillor Audrey Wales MBE, was on hand to welcome the party who all come from the Carrickfergus area.

“This very positive group meets twice a month to share in various activities and I was therefore very pleased to invite them to visit the Mayor’s Parlour following a request from the Alzheimer’s Society.

“It was great to see such an active, forward-looking group of people who are clearly so determined to make the most of their lives – even though they are living with this dreadful illness,” said Cllr Wales.

Lisa Hendley, Activities co-ordinator from the Alzheimers Society, expressed her appreciation to the first citizen for the visit.

“It was lovely for the group to have an informal ‘meet and greet’ event with the mayor. They had the opportunity to chat away with the mayor, enjoy some tea and even pose for some photographs,” said Lisa.
