Alzheimer’s Society is Mayor’s 2015 charity

The Mayor of Mid and East Antrim Borough Council has chosen to support the Alzheimer’s Society as his Charity in the year ahead.

Cllr Billy Ashe hopes to raise funds over the year with a variety of events. The Mayor said: “I decided to support Alzheimer’s Society because my mother suffered from this illness and as a family we had first-hand experience of the devastating consequences not just to the patient but to all around them.

“The Alzheimer’s society helped support our family in our time of need and it’s great to think that I have the opportunity to be raising funds to help support people to live well with dementia today and fund research to find a cure for tomorrow.”

The Alzheimer’s Society’s Andy Boal, Community Fundraiser for North and East Northern Ireland said: “We are delighted that Cllr Ashe is giving his time to support Alzheimer’s Society.

“One in three people over 65 will die with dementia. It is more than just memory loss; it robs people of their lives and has a devastating impact on families and loved ones.

“As a charity, we rely on the generosity of the public to help us continue our vital work.

Please back Mid and East Antrim Borough Council in their fundraising efforts so that Alzheimer’s Society can continue leading the fight against dementia.”
