Amanda gets the ‘chop’ for charity

Amanda Faulkner went for the ‘chop’ in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust, a UK-based organisation which provides life-changing care and support so young people don’t have to face the illness alone.

The schoolgirl had the idea to cut eighteen inches off her flowing locks and donate her hair to be made into a wig for young people going through treatment for cancer.

Amanda and her mum jointly came up with the idea, with Diane’s Hair and Beauty Design in Carrick stepping in to help.

Commenting on the response to the donation, Amanda said: “Everyone has been so nice to me about it and tell me that I did a really good thing – people are so surprised but think it was worthwhile!”

A statement from the school read: “Carrickfergus College would like to express their pride in Amanda’s efforts to help those less fortunate than herself to get through a difficult time – well done Amanda!”
