Along with team mates Cathy Gaston from Antrim and Barry Calderwood from Broughshane, Amanda will take part in a 3,500km pan-Indian adventure in a 7 horsepower motorised Rickshaw.

The team, known as ‘Team Ewe Only Live Once’ will race in January’s Rickshaw Run with to raise money for the registered charity Cool Earth, a charity that works alongside indigenous villages to halt rain-forest destruction.

The group set off on 28th December where they will fly to India and travel from Kochi in Kerala up to Jaisalmer in Rajasthan and Amanda is extremely excited about the adventure that lies ahead.

“We are getting quite nervous as well as excited as we come close to departing. We have our international driving licences and visas and all we need to do is get on the flight. We have no accommodation booked as our journey will very much be based on how many times our rickshaw breaks down and the likelihood is that we will be spending 10 hours a day driving.

“It’s for a great cause and we hope to raise as much money as possible so we can do our part for a better world.” To donate visit www.justgiving.com/Amanda-Gaston. Collection boxes are in Moores of Coleraine.
