Amazing Amy holds charity art show

Amy’s Irish Art Exhibition will raise money for Clic Sargent and NI Cancer Fund for Children, two charities which are extremely close to her heart, having helped her through her two-year battle with leukaemia.

The 18 year old Lurgan girl has been busy finding ways to give back to those supporting her - including her younger sister Gemma who, at the age of 12, was the donor who enabled Amy’s bone marrow transplant to take place.

“I got a call from Charles Gilmore a few weeks ago, offering me the use of the Charles Gilmore Fine Arts Gallery to hold a fundraising event. Charles has promised that 20% from the sale of any of his paintings sold on the night will go to the charities. A variety of local artists have donated paintings as well - with 100% of those profits going to charity.”

Having organised the event just three weeks ago, Amy has quickly gathered support from artists and stars across NI, including world No 1 golfer, Rory McIlroy:

“I met Rory a while ago through NI Cancer Fund for Children, and he said to let him know if I ever needed anything. After hearing about the exhibition, he donated two of his 18 hole flags from his Open win last year!”

As well as artwork from renowned Northern Irish artists like Stephen Forbes, Amy has had masterpieces donated from those who have played a vital role in her brave journey.

“One of the paintings is by a nurse who looked after me during my treatment,” Amy explained. “He’s registered blind, and has painted a piece just for this. It’s coming together to be a really big event!”

For the past month, Amy has been driving around the country in a Mini Cooper - kindly sponsored by JKC Mini and AB&C Insurance - to raise awareness about the event.

“I can guarantee this wee mini will be far and wide around the country!” said Amy. “I am so thankful to each of those involved in this fundraiser,”

The exhibition will run from 3-9pm on Thursday, with the main event taking place from 6pm onwards. Everyone is welcome to pop into the Belfast gallery where wine and refreshments will be provided.
