The organisers are delighted with the huge response from the people of Ballymoney and surrounding area.

Edwina Chambers told the Times: “These shoeboxes are heading for Albania, Ukraine and Belarus to children who will never have had a present like this in their lives.

“Despite the credit crunch, the people of Ballymoney have been so generous.

“Pastor Ronny from the Drop Inn Ministries would like to thank the churches, schools and general public who supported the appeal so well.

“We would also like to thank the ladies who knitted items for the boxes, people who donated items and people who donated money to pay for the diesel to run the lorry.

“We would also like to thank Pastor Yvonne from the Church of God who prayed over the lorry before it left.”

The lorry left Ballymoney on Wednesday on its special journey.
