'˜Amazing total' for Cancer Research events

Cancer Research Ballymoney are delighted to announce that they have raised a massive £14,059!

This incredible amount was donated towards Cancer Research UK, as a result of the recent doorstep collection (£6598) and street collection (£7461) at the Parade of Bands and vintage vehicles on Saturday 6th August.

The doorstep collection showed an increase of £483 on last year and the Saturday collection showed an increase of £612 on 2015 figure.

A spokesperson for the Committee said: “Our final total is absolutely amazing.

“A massive thanks from the Ballymoney Committee to all those who made this amazing total possible.

“We have a great team of collectors who give of their time freely.

“It is not taken for granted. Thanks to all collectors, givers and participants.”

The Organising Committee wish to thank the members of the local Old Vehicle Clubs which took part in the cavalcade prior to the Band Parade providing the usual spectacular variety of vehicles for the viewing crowd.

Thanks go to the following 26 bands who supported the fundraising parade: Vow Accordion Band for leading the parade. Loughanreagh, Killycoogan Independent, Eden Accordion Band; Killyless, Lavin, Craiganee, Lisnagrot, Cahaney, Benvarden, Dunaghy Acc, Dunloy, Milltown, William Beattie Memorial Dunaney, Stranocum, Bushside Independent, Glenkeen, Loughans, Dunaghy Flute Band, Ballymaconnelly, Pride of Park Armoy, Dervock, Drumaheagles, Garryduff, Tullaghans and Ballyrashane.

Committee Chairman Mervyn Ferris commented: “This is a fantastic response by the general public in support of the work of Cancer Research and is most remarkable in the light of other worthy Ccncer charitable collections and large band parades in previous weeks.

“I would like to commend all the collectors who braved the elements throughout the period and ensured the success of our annual fundraiser and a total that all in Ballymoney can be extremely proud of.

“A big thank you to Eden Accordion Band and Pride of Park Armoy for their generous donations prior to the parade.

“Thanks also go to the parade marshals, the PSNI for traffic control, St John Ambulance, the Agricultural Committee for use of Ballymoney Showgrounds and not forgetting the Borough street cleansing workforce who tidy up after the event.”
