Ambulance service role for former Town Clerk

A former Carrickfergus Town Clerk is to take up a new role with the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service.

Alan Cardwell, who was chief executive of the former Carrickfergus Borough Council from 1999 to 2011, has been appointed as a non-executive lay director to the NIAS.

His appointment, which takes effect from August 1, was one of three announced by Health Minister Simon Hamilton to the body which is tasked with providing and managing ambulance and associated services.

Non-executive directors of NIAS receive annual remuneration of £5,962 for a time commitment of three days per month.

Mr Cardwell’s earlier career was spent in various departments of the Northern Ireland Civil Service.
