An Indian night in Wallace High School

On Friday, September 30th Wallace High School Assembly Hall was transformed into a Dining Hall by a motivated and hardworking Asha team who were ably directed by our dedicated Maintenance department led by Mr Colin McCutcheon.

Plans for the Asha dinner were well underway from May 2016 when the Asha team decided they wished to host a dinner where the primary objectives were to promote the work of Asha, meet the team and provide more detailed information about our plans for the upcoming trip to Delhi.

Each table was beautifully adorned with jam jars filled with beautiful flowers provided by the team. The hall was also decorated with fairy lights, Indian themed artwork provided by pupils from Year 10, Indian fabrics and plants provided by Harry, our Groundsman.

The Indian theme continued as the guests awaited a delicious three-course meal. Kirsty, Catering Manager for Mount Charles Catering, created a delicious menu with lots of choice and some interesting dessert choices which would provide a new experience for guests.

The starters were Vegetable Samosas and Tandoori Skewers whilst the main course included the much loved Chicken Korma and Lamb Rogan Josh, leaving a full but contented audience.

The Charity Committee Year 13 volunteers were transformed from Sixth Form students to waiters and waitresses in order to serve the guests. Mrs Thampi wishes to extend her sincere thanks for their hard work and willingness to give of their time and energy to support the Asha team.

Highlights of the night included watching a video introducing the audience to Asha’s aims and work in Delhi, along with a quiz that provided more of an accurate perspective on the country of India itself. It was also inspiring to hear two stories of how Asha’s work has transformed the lives of two children in the slums.

Guests were also introduced to the Wallace High School 2016 Asha team who introduced themselves and shared their hopes, fears and expectations for the upcoming trip in October. It was also very interesting to hear about plans for the work the team hope to do in the slum.

Mrs Thampi wishes to thank all of the guests for attending the Asha Dinner and for their ongoing support and interest in the work of Asha.

We wish the team well as they complete their final preparations in the coming weeks and embark on their exciting journey to Delhi on 26th October and return home on Saturday 5th November.
