An inspirational night for mums

Andrea McAleese is inviting local mothers to her Society Street hairdressing salon, Romaya, for a pampering evening with a difference.

Posting an invite to local mothers on Facebook last week, Andrea wrote: “Are you or do you know someone who is a mum to an angel in heaven?

“As all of you probably know I’m an angel mummy to my little girl Roma who I lost four-and-a-half years ago. At that time people where so kind to me and I’ve made friends with a lot of other mums who lost kids.

“Coming up to Christmas is a really hard time for us all and that’s why I have decided to do a free event in the salon for all you mums.

“It doesn’t matter how long it’s been since you lost your child, what age they were or how it happened I’d love to meet you.”

Little Roma McAleese was knocked down and killed near her home at Ashdale Park in Coleraine in March 2009.

Andrea named her hairdressing business after their daughter and her sister Maya. Roma attended St Malachy’s Nursery School and was due to go on to Millburn Primary School in Coleraine.

Since posting the online invite Andrea said she has been inundated by businesses and people willing to donate gifts.

“It’s been unbelievable, my phone hasn’t stopped. So many people have been in touch to offer beautiful gifts and even money.

“I’m hoping to use the donations for some sort of permanent feature.”

Speaking of next month’s event - which will be held on Tuesday, December 3 from 7pm - Andrea explained: “We will be doing hair, Perfections Day Spa have kindly offered to do make-up and nails, Mandy’s Holistics are offering holistic therapies, Liza McCaskie from Herbalife will be doing mini facials and I’m hoping some other local food outlets may help with a light supper and a glass of wine.

“I’m also trying to get a piece of art made so if mums would like to bring a picture or something that reminds them of their child please do so as I’d like to make this a permanent feature to remember our children.

“It would be so nice to meet other mums and give them a well deserved treat for Christmas.

“No mother - or father - should have to bury their child, no matter what age and I hope as many mums as possible come along on the night and support this event.”
