An uphill battle for residents of Glenwood

Icy roads and footpaths mean those living on the steep stretch of the south Lurgan street find it almost impossible to navigate.

Resident Heather Thompson-McNeill said: “Glenwood Park is a hill and a bend. Vehicles are having to go up the hill sideways and down again sideways. The revving of the engines is shocking.

“Delivery vans have gone down our hill and had to abandon them - one was there for days. Car owners on down the hill from me have to bring their cars to the top of Glenwood Park/Glenview Drive the night before when conditions are like this.

“The neighbours are great and we all try to help each other. Only for that we’d never get out of here.”

DUP Councillor Carla Lockhart confirmed Glenwood Park is now formally adopted by Roads Service which led to the placing of a grit box there for the first time on Monday. She said: “I would like to thank the Roads Service for their assistance in Glenwood Park in the placing of a grit box at the top of what is a very steep incline. This will undoubtedly help the people who live there.

“This is something I have been working on for a couple of years and now that the road is formally adopted by Roads Service we were able to achieve a grit box for the area. I am continuing to work on the provision of grit boxes throughout the borough and am happy to help any individuals who experience difficulties in the wintery conditions.”
