Anahilt woman heads off to Washington

Kerry Logan, who is currently studying Law and French Law at the University of Aberdeen, has been chosen to be part of the Washington Ireland Program (WIP).

She will be interning in Congressman Brendan Boyle’s Office, then volunteer at The Capital Area Food Bank’s Urban Demonstration Garden, a program designed to promote nutritional education.

She had to undergo a rigorous process to be accepted onto the six-month program which brings university students from Ireland to Washington, for summer internships and leadership training.

“I am absolutely delighted to have been accepted onto the program and can’t wait for all the opportunities to learn, the challenges, that I am sure the summer will hold,” the former Friends pupil said.

“I am passionate about social justice and human rights and would love to work for an NGO in one of those areas, perhaps in an advocacy role.

“Whilst I can’t wait to visit the US for the first time I don’t see myself staying in Washington, indeed the program aims to develop emerging leaders committed to effecting social change and to charting a new course for the people of Ireland and Northern Ireland in the 21st Century.”

In Washington, participants gain first-hand experience of a political process and are exposed to a culture of diversity.
