Analysisputs NW bottom of NI league

An analysis of the 11 new ‘supercouncils’ by The Detail has placed Derry and Strabane District bottom of the league with the highest rates, the highest unemployment (8 per cent), highest free school meal entitlement, highest levels of housing stress, and lower levels of life expectancy.

The analysis ranked the councils from 1-to-11 across education, health, employment, access to services and life expectancy.

The local Council ranked last on rates on £150,000 income (£1,256); claimant count (8 per cent); median earnings (£16,580); and free school meals entitlement (28.7 per cent).

It ranked second last on life expectancy for men (76.73); life expectancy for women (80.76) and housing stress 1.71 per cent).

It was ranked ninth on educational attainment (61.7 per cent); seventh on Council debt per capita (£584.78); fifth on Council assets per capita (£1,309.31); and fourth on empty homes in the district (2.32 per cent).
