Anderson appeals for peaceful weekend

SINN Féin Foyle MLA Martina Anderson has called for calm, restraint and commonsense before, during and after the Apprentice Boys' march in Londonderry on Saturday.

Ms Anderson said: "The priority for this coming weekend must be to ensure that the disruption and inconvenience to the citizens of the city is kept to an absolute minimum.

"Those organisations and individuals who are participating or have responsibility for parading, protesting or policing must do so in a manner which does not heighten tension or result in actions which are detrimental to the community and business life of the city.

"At the culmination of this weekend's events we want to be able to reflect on a peaceful day free from sectarianism, conflict and violence.

"Derry does not need to experience the scenes we witnessed in Ardoyne on 12th July and everyone has a role to play in delivering a trouble free day."
