Anderson praises go ahead for Donard School expansion

Local DUP MLA Sydney Anderson has welcomed the recent announcement from the Department of Education that Donard Special School is to receive approximately £1.2 million for expansion work.

The work will focus on classroom extension to replace current modular accommodation.

Mr Anderson has followed recent development closely and stated, “I am delighted to learn that Donard Special School has received this funding for important expansion work and it is great to see that the go ahead has now been given for work to commence.

“Donard School is one of only five schools in the Education Authority Southern Region for pupils with severe learning difficulties and it provides a vital educational service for some of the most vulnerable young people in the Upper Bann constituency.

“As such, this funding for classroom extension will greatly allow the school to meet the educational needs of the children and families in the local area.

“Moreover, the school will be able to offer improved facilities which not only enhance the learning opportunities of the children, but which also provide a better working environment for all the staff at the school.”

Mr. Anderson continued by stating, “I now await the successful completion of this expansion work.

“I want to wish everyone involved with the school all the best as they seek to provide continued high quality education to the local children throughout the community.

“Donard School recently celebrated its 50th anniversary since it first opened and is a well established and respected school.

“Ultimately, this extension work will allow Donard School to grow from strength to strength in the years ahead.”
