Anderson welcomes grant scheme news

Local DUP MLA Sydney Anderson, a member of the Stormont Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs Committee has welcomed the recent announcement by Minister Michelle McIlveen MLA that the Micro Capital Grant Scheme is to continue.

Mr Anderson said, “I fully welcome that this worthwhile scheme which is designed to enhance the lives of residents living in rural communities is to be continued.

“Phase III of the Rural Micro Capital Grant Scheme will be delivered by local Rural Support Networks across Northern Ireland on behalf of the Department. Grants of between £200 and £1,500 are available to constituted rural community organisations for equipment and minor capital works.

“To date, I am aware that this scheme has provided over 360 rural community and voluntary groups with small grants which has helped them to modernise or update their premises and to also purchase equipment allowing them to offer enhanced services for our rural communities.

“This scheme helps rural community and voluntary groups to build on their efforts at further developing community spirit and addressing social isolation in rural areas.”

Sydney Anderson MLA continued, “I firmly believe that the Rural Micro Capital Grant Scheme highlights the work that the department is doing to actively tackle rural poverty and social isolation. It also demonstrates how government and the community and voluntary sector can work collaboratively to improve the lives of those residing in rural areas.”

The scheme is now open for applications until noon on Friday September 30, 2016. In the Upper Bann area the scheme is being administered by The Armagh, Down and Antrim Network (TADA).
