Forget your addiction to candy sweets, Lisburn man Andrew’s game, Sportz Smash, is set to be a huge when it’s released in App stores next month.

Andrew, who used to work for Royal Caribbean as a sports staff member, said he is ‘excited’ ahead of the release of Sportz Smash, a match three game with a unique sports theme.

Andrew said he is a fan of match three games, but noticed there were none aimed at sports fans.

“My background is studying sports and playing sports,” Andrew commented.

“Once I got the idea I couldn’t get it out of my head.

“The idea didn’t take too long, that was the easiest part, but I would not have a clue how to design an app, I’ve never worked in IT or gaming.

“I hired a freelancer to design the artwork,” Andrew explained, “but then I left it because my wife was pregnant and my priorities were my wife and baby, so the project was put on hold.

“In January I started thinking about it again and I thought it was too good an idea to go to waste,” said Andew, who currently works in SERC as Learning Support.

“In the game, a player has to match three or more balls together, and you get points for matching them.

“There is nice animation and every level is different. There are different difficulties, different sports balls to match.”

Andrew’s game will be available in the Apple Store and Google Play from next month, and he is confident gamers will love it.

“I’ve got a really good feeling about it,” he said.

“It’s really rewarding,” Andrew commented. “I’ve been obsessed for the past month, constantly learning and promoting. Anyone can play the game, the lowest age range is four-plus. It’s a game anyone can pick up.

“The levels vary, there are power-up’s to pass levels. I think it’s addictive for players,” he commented.

“It is an oversaturated market, but if you try and look for a game that’s sports related, there are none out there; none that are well known.

“I’m really pleased with it. We’re very, very close to the final touches until it’s released.

“I’m happy I’ve gone for it, it’s a risk but it’s worth it,” Andrew said. “My wife has been really supportive,” Andrew commented.

“I’ve been busy with the baby and being a dad and aspects of the game.

“My family and friends are really pleased and surprised.

“I’m really excited for the app to be released,” he said.

“If this kicks off I will definitely think about doing another one,” Andrew added.
