Andy takes to the airwaves

A LOCAL DJ has taken up a presenting job with one of Northern Ireland's top radio stations.

Andy Baird, 30, now has his own show on Citybeat 96.7fm called 'Get it on' every Friday and Saturday night from 7pm to 10pm.

The Stoneyford man, who is married to Tammy and has two young children, Mia and Tom, has been involved in the DJ world since he was a teenager. At the age of 14 he promoted and played his first gig at Legacurry Youth Club to 300 people and soon developed a taste for playing to big crowds, gaining experience with his AB Mobile Disco rig all over Northern Ireland.

During the day Andy works as a sales executive with Phillip McCallen Motorcycles.

Talking about his new gig Andy said: "Citybeat was looking for some new blood and now I have my own show on Friday and Saturday nights. It's my first time on radio and I'm really enjoying it.

"I play the best tunes from the 70's 80's and 90's so there's something for everyone."

Andy first got his break into the Belfast DJ circuit when a leading Belfast promoter booked him, at very short notice, to play in a club in University Street for the World Water Polo Players after show party. He was a regular DJ at Hillsborough's Barretro and still plays in Benedict's of Belfast.
