Aneuryism opsended in 2010

LONDONDERRY operations for abdominal aneuryisms ended in October 2010 with people requiring such surgery now having to travel to Belfast.

Health Minsiter Edwin Poots was asked by SDLP MLA Colum Eastwood whether operations for Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms are still performed in Altnagelvin Hospital.

He replied: “I am advised by the Western Health and Social Care Trust that the Trust stopped performing planned abdominal aortic aneurysm surgery in October 2010. All patients requiring this procedure are transferred to Belfast.”

The Minister was also asked if there were any current proposals for the removal of services from Altnagelvin Hospital.

Mr Poots stated: “There are no plans to remove particular services from Altnagelvin Area Hospital at this time.”
