Anger as grass verges are churned up into quagmire

BALLYEARL residents are up in arms after slurry tankers delivering fertiliser to fields on the Doagh Road, churned up the grass verge opposite their homes, creating an unsightly mess.

"A whole pile of slurry tankers - about five or six of them turned up on the Doagh Road, pulled up onto the grass verges that residents living in the vicinity of them maintain, and turned them into a complete quagmire," one disgruntled resident told the Times this week.

"The residents take pride in the area in front of their houses and so they keep the grass verges and the hedges trimmed and under control throughout the year.

"But, in just a short time, these tankers were able to come and wreck all the work, leaving an eyesore in their wake."

The resident, who did not wish to be named, said complaints were made to local police about the matter.

"It was then passed on to the DOE, but no-one has bothered to let us know anything about it," said the resident.

"It is very upsetting for those who have put in the work, and someone can just come in and destroy it and get away with it.

“All people can do now is look out the window at a mess on the side of the road, which was once a pleasant view of the countryside."
