Anger at sneaky speed trap tactic

SNEAKY tactics used by Larne police in a recent speed trap have outraged members of the borough's district policing partnership.

And is understood that PSNI Chief Constable Matt Baggott is to be contacted over the incident.

Members of Larne DPP were informed by its vice-chairman, Crawford Wilson, how confidence in police in the Islandmagee area had "totally evaporated" following the actions of the four officers.

He told how two of the officers operated a radar speed check at Kilcairn on the Low Road while the other two were half-a-mile further along the road "hiding in a gateway".

"As cars drove past the speed trap and flashed their lights at oncoming cars, the officers proceeded to come out and issue them with fixed penalty tickets for the misuse of lights and disrupting a police operation," he said.
