Anger in Glens at 02 network problems

Sinn Féin MLA Oliver McMullan has called on O2 network to explain why the mobile service was not in operation in the entire Glens area area for much of this week.

On Friday, the network had been down for three days, Mr McMullan said.

He said: “This causes major disruption to the community and posesa danger due to the emergency services dependency on mobile coverage. Many people have been left without mobile connection for three days.

“The emergency services in the Glens have depended on mobile phone coverage due to the fact that the new system introduced two years ago failed to operate in the Glens area and this incident highlights the need for this emergency communication to be upgraded.

“I am calling on O2 to explain to the local people when the service will be fully restored and I am also calling on O2 to instigate a system where customers are better informed of breakdowns or when maintenance work is being carried out. I now intend to raise the matter with the Enterprise Minister Arlene Foster and with OFCOM so that the Glens area can have a mobile phone service they can depend on.”
