Angling club: '˜Speed boats won't stop coarse fishing on Roughan Lough'

Coarse fishing is still taking place on Roughan Lough despite the Angling Club's cancellation of trout fishing for health and safety reasons surrounding the use of speed boats on the lake.

A spokesperson for the club said its insurance would not cover any accidents involving such boats, so it could not continue.

“A couple of our older anglers got badly soaked with three and four foot waves in the summer,” he explained.

“The reason we have stopped trout fishing is because it starts from March and they seem to appear from the end of April to the beginning of May. We have suspended it now on health and safety reasons.”

“We have a meeting in the car park at 2pm this Saturday [ January 23] for anybody wanting to join for pike and coarse fishing.”
