Animal ambulance saves dog from busy Scarva Road

Local animal charity, The Doghouse Sanctuary, was called into action once again last week when they had to save a dog that was '˜dodging' traffic on the Scarva Road.

The Banbridge sanctuary recently called on the public for help after a number of dogs were taken into their care, including two sisters found starving in the Mournes.

However, their vital ‘animal ambulance’ was out once again when the male collie dog was lost and frightened amongst traffic on the Scarva Road last Sunday, July 24.

A volunteer at the Sanctuary said: “We received an emergency call about the Collie saying he was not willing to come to anybody and was very nervous and exhausted running away from traffic and people. He had been seen running around since the previous Thursday.

“It’s possible he has been dumped or escaped. There is no dog warden on duty on a Sunday, highlighting just how vital the animal ambulance is.

“The Collie had no microchip and no collar so we have been unable to trace an owner, even with the publicity on Facebook no-one has come forward to claim him.”

The sanctuary now need to raise funds to cover his veterinary care and the time it takes to rehabilitate him to make sure he’s ready for rehoming.
