Animals in Need appeal for Christmas

Currently in the process of obtaining charitable status so that they can expand the remit of their work, the group is primarily involved in rescuing stray animals and taking dogs from the city’s dog pound and keeping them in foster homes until they find their ‘forever’ homes. Their aim is to rescue as many dog and cats as possible and give then a chance of life.

According to founder member Gareth Connor, the group currently have 10 dogs in care at the moment and they have a 14-strong core group of volunteers of differing age groups, all involved in caring for the animals they have rescued.

“We are a non-profit organisation and our aim is to help animals. We are involved in rescuing dogs from the council pound and rescuing cats,” he said.

“We have a number of appeals running at the moment. The first is that we are appealing for foster homes so that we can continue to rescue animals,” he said.

“We also need donations of food and bedding or blankets and we are appealing for people not to get dogs as pets for Christmas, as unwanted Christmas pets will end up on the street and in the dog pound. Cash donations can be made at Drumahoe Veterinary Clinic.
