Annniversary time for country markets

A YEAR after it opened its doors for the first time, Glenlough Country Markets is celebrating its success this weekend with a new initiative.

At the first market - on May 15, 2010 - 18 producers of homemade and home-produced goods showed off their wares to the public. Since then, the market has gone through many changes with some producers moving on to establish their own business, whether through opening their own retail outlet or as a supplier to other businesses.

This Saturday (June 4) will be the first anniversary celebration market in Seaview Primary School, Glenarm followed by the Carnlough anniversary market in the Glenlough Community Centre on Saturday, June 11. Both markets will run from 11am to 2pm.

The anniversary sees the launch of a new initiative - The Health Corner - where therapists will be available to give taster therapy sessions, such as holistic facial massage, Indian head massage and reflexology with costs starting at £5 for a 15-minute session.

Bookings will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis. These treatments will be carried out with fully-trained professionals who are starting up their own business and are looking to build up a customer base. The treatments will take place in an adjoining room to the market.

Producers, meanwhile, are promising a range of special anniversary offers at both markets.

Expected are a wide range of goods, including plants, jewellery, cards, home-baked breads and biscuits, free range eggs, hand-knit children’s clothes, handmade crafts, jams and even specialised doggie treats for the family pet.
