Ann's Action Cancer coffee morning success

Action Cancer supporter Ann Brown and friends have raised an incredible £1,890 with their annual coffee morning, held in Portstewart Guide Hall for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The charity’s coffee mornings are renowned for their fabulous baking, bunting and buns, and Ann’s event is no exception with freshly made scones, delicious Victoria sponges, fairy cakes and other treats.

Ann held her first coffee morning back in 2007 when several close friends were diagnosed with breast cancer. Since then it has grown year on year, and last week Ann very kindly presented a cheque to Action Cancer bringing her total amount raised over nine incredible years to £8,915.

Ann explained: “Breast screening so vitally important. We all know some who has been affected by this disease and I wanted to do something to help. Thank you so much to everyone who has helped us to raise this fantastic amount.”

Action Cancer Events Officer Arlene Creighton added: “Action Cancer provides breast screening for 11,000 women aged 40-49 and 70+ each year. For every 1,000 women screened, six women will have their cancers detected, hopefully at an early and treatable stage. This is only possible because of the generous support Action Cancer receives from the local community.

“Thank you so much to Ann Brown and her team in Portstewart, and all those who host coffee mornings for Action Cancer throughout the year. We are indebted to you for your generous support”.
