Annual Carers Week

Carers from Londonderr and Strabane took time out of their caring responsibilities to enjoy a welcome break at the White Horse Hotel last week.

The special event entitled ‘In sickness and In health’ was organised by the Western Health and Social Care Trust to mark annual Carers Week 2012.

In all 60 carers registered with the Western Trust’s Carers Database attended the Carers’ Support Day which provided an opportunity for those looking after someone on a regular basis to enjoy a break and relax with others involved in a similar role.

Those who attended got the opportunity to sample a variety of complementary therapies and health checks. Information stalls were in keeping with the theme of Carers Week and featured Northern Ireland Chest Heart and Stroke, Me Unlimited, the Patient Client Council and The Pension Service. Other stalls provided information and support on emotional health and wellbeing.

Aidan Gordon, Assistant Director, said: “The response from carers this year has been phenomenal. The event gave carers the opportunity to take a much-needed break away from their caring role and relax with other people with similar experiences.
