Annual City church services and parades

The Brethren in the City of Londonderry Grand Orange Lodge held their annual Battle of the Boyne Church Service in Carlisle Road Presbyterian Church on the afternoon of Sunday, July 3.

As well as the Officers of the City of Londonderry Grand Orange Lodge and associated District and Private Lodges being in attendance, the local Womens Lodges, Junior Girls Lodge, Junior Boys Lodge, Churchill Flute Band and Killaloo Accordion Band were also in attendance.

Among the distinguished guests to attend were the Mayor of Londonderry, Alderman Maurice Devenney, as well as the Grand Master of Ireland, Most Wor Bro Edward Stevenson.

The parade, lead by the Churchill Flute Band, stopped at the War Memorial where the Grand Master, on behalf of the City of Londonderry Grand Orange Lodge and the Churchill Flute Band, both laid wreaths in memory of those whom have paid the ‘Supreme Sacrifice’ in past World Wars, as well as more recent conflicts, at home and abroad.

At the Church two ceremonial swords donated by Bro Alwyn Hogg, marking 40 years in the Orange Institution, were dedicated by the Minister, Rev Dr T Robert Buick.

The members of City of Londonderry No 5 District Loyal Orange Lodge held their annual Parade and religious Service in Glendermott Parish Church on the evening of Friday 1st July 2011 to mark the 95th Anniversary of the ‘Battle of the Somme’.

Immediately before the service, the Officers of the City of Londonderry No 5 District LOL laid a wreath at the War Memorial in the grounds of Glendermott Parish Church in memory of all those who paid the Supreme Sacrifice; not only at the “Battle of the Somme”, but in past world wars, as well as more recent conflicts; both at home and abroad.

The Service was conducted by the Rector, Rev Canon Derek Creighton with Killaloo Accordion Band leading the parade.

The Mayor of the City of Londonderry, Alderman Maurice Devenney was also present for the Service.
