Annual Shoebox appeal is launched

The annual Christmas shoebox appeal organised by Drop Inn Ministries was officially launched in Ballymoney last Tuesday.

Volunteers Maureen Pollock and Edwina Chambers were joined by Alderman Bill Kennedy at the Drop Inn premises at Castlecroft where boxes can be left before being transported to Eastern Europe in time for the festive season.

Alderman Kennedy said: “I would urge all who can to fill a shoebox and send it to Edwina at Drop Inn. It’s a marvellous gesture and it brings a great deal of joy and happiness to children.”

Last year more than £1300 was collected and Alderman Kennedy says the target this year is £1500.

Edwina thanked Alderman Kennedy for coming and for making a donation of almost £100 from loose change at Armoy Filling Station. Anyone donating boxes should note that they need to be left at Drop Inn by the last Friday in October. A £1 coin needs to be put in a sealed envelope on the outside of the box to cover the cost of shipping and distribution.

Things to be sent include a small toy, small game, cuddly toy, stationery, confectionery, toiletries, clothing and letter or photograph.
