Another first class mission

BALLYMONEY postmen are used to trekking around the streets of the town, but last Saturday they took part in a more challenging walk - the charity van pull.

There are 35 staff employed at the sorting office in the town and all contributed to raising funds for Cancer Research under the watchful eye of manager, Sammy Graham, a man whose van pulling exploits are legendary.

The pull began at High Street and then on to Main Street, along to the roundabout at the Roddens, up Queen Street past the ‘Tech’, back down High Street, Church Street, Victoria Street, Linenhall Street and before finishing at base.

Speaking to the Times, Sammy explained: “This is the 4th year that the Ballymoney postmen have held fundraising events to aid Cancer Research NI.

“The main events were the street collection on Friday, September 2 and 3 along with the van pull on Saturday afternoon. So far we have raised just over the £3,00 mark with more money still to come in.

“We again would like to thank the public of Ballymoney for their generosity and support. Also a special mention to Robert and Mady Martin for the wonderful buffet they prepared for all the people involved in the charity event.

“And of course not forrgetting at Ballymoney Times for all thier support in giving us space leading up to the event and the coverage on the actual day of the van pull.

“We will publish a final figure once all fundraising has been completed.”
