Another step closer

STRATHFOYLE has taken another step towards the winners rostrum in the Village of the Year competition.

Following their visit to Strathfoyle in August, the judging panel invited members of Enagh Youth Forum to attend the final in the Slieve Donard Hotel, County Down, on October 18.

The competition, which attracts many entrants from across Northern Ireland, has been running annually since the 1990s and aims to identify the villages that best meet the criteria of being a well-balanced, pro-active, caring community which has made the best of local opportunities to maintain and enhance the quality of life for all residents.

Enagh Youth Forum chairperson, Amy Phelan said: “Whether we win one of the awards or not, the Youth Forum members are all very proud that our hard work and that of all the other organisations in the Strathfoyle area is being given this recognition and acknowledgement.”

Eamonn O’Donnell, youth support worke, said reaching the final six of tin the competition was “a great boost to all the good work being carried out by groups and individuals in Strathfoyle and Maydown”.

He added that the gorup would be inviting two members from other local organisations along with two members of the Youth Forum to represent Strathfoyle at the awards ceremony.
