Another step towards council reform

A FURTHER step in reforming local government in Northern Ireland has been taken with the Assembly’s approval of the Local Government (Boundaries) Order (Northern Ireland) 2012.

The legislation sets the boundaries of 11 new local government districts as well as the number, boundaries and names of the wards into which each district will be divided.

Environment Minister Alex Attwood said: “The 11 new local government districts have now been established in law.

“The Order has been debated and passed by the Assembly. It gives confirmation to the boundaries of the 11 new local government districts and their wards. This is a further development in moving to 11 councils.”
