Anti-burglary

THE PSNI have been conducting a proactive anti-burglary operation throughout G District - Strabane, Foyle, Magherafelt and Limavady.

Acting Chief Inspector Jon Burrows says targeted patrolling, rigorous bail checks and other measures will be used to prevent more people becoming victims of this type of crime.

“Burglary can be a very emotive crime as many victims feel their homes and privacy have been invaded. Quite often the criminals make off with personal items that have both monetary and sentimental value. Some of those items will never be able to be replaced,” he said.

“Perhaps it sounds too simple, and that’s why some people still haven’t got the message but the reality is, a lot of burglaries can be prevented if the public get into the habit of locking all doors and windows, even when the house is occupied.

“Criminals are looking to make off with your most valuable property in the shortest amount of time. An unlocked door or an open window means they can get in and out as quickly as possible without being identified. Do not make it easy for criminals to gain access to your home,” he added.

G District currently has the best clearance rates for domestic burglary in Northern Ireland however the public can support us by making sure their homes are secure.
