'Anti-litter day'?

AN 'anti-litter day' could be held in Moyle in the future after discussions among councillors.

The idea arose after Tidy NI contacted the body seeking support for an anti-litter campaign it is staging throughout Northern Ireland.

Tidy NI said they hoped the cost of the campaign would be split among Northern Ireland’s 26 councils.

They said a TV, radio and outdoor campaign would cost Moyle council 1,404 with a TV campaign alone costing 841.

Cllr Paudie McShane told a council meeting on Monday of last week that no money had been set aside for the project.

“Some people would consider posters as litter,” he said.

Cllr Robert McIlroy proposed having an anti-litter day in Moyle during which local communities could participate in a clean up of their areas.

“Whilst I don’t disagree with the campaign I think people will look at it but it will be far from their minds the next day,” he said.

Cllr Helen Harding said: “If there was some way to involve the schools as well.

“The younger children know not to litter the better.”

Councillors chose not to participate in the Tidy NI campaign.
