Antrim show their intent with win over Derry

ANTRIM recorded a 3-7 to 0-15 victory over the Derry in Sunday's Barrett Electrical Dr McKenna Cup Group C clash at Casement Park.

Michael McCann and Michael Magill scored first half goals for Antrim but the sides were level at the interval 2-4 to 0-10.

Ciaran Close's goal put the hosts three points ahead in the last 10 minutes and Antrim held on for a narrow win.

At Healy Park, Kyle Coney showcased his great potential, scoring five points in Tyrone’s 0-25 to 0-10 win over St Mary’s.

Tyrone led by 0-14 to 0-2 at half-time, and had 12 different players on the scoresheet in an impressive display.

On Saturday, former Aussie Rules star Martin Clarke made his senior competitive debut for Down in a 1-17 to 0-8 victory over Queen's University.

Clarke finished with a personal tally of 1-6, with the goal coming from the penalty spot in the second half.

At Crossmaglen, Paddy O'Rourke's reign as Armagh manager began with a 1-2 to 0-16 defeat to UUJ.

Three points from Tony Kernan, who was forced off with injury, and two from Joe Feeney had the Orchard County 0-5 to 0-2 in front before Ronan Austin pushed them six points clear with a fisted goal in the 16th minute.

The game changed dramatically in the second quarter as Armagh’s lack of fitness became clear. With Stefan Forker leading from the front, Jordanstown outscored the hosts by 0-7 to 0-1.

Jason McAnuall gave UUJ the lead for the first time two minutes after the restart and not even the introduction of Steven McDonnell, Aaron Kernan and Charlie Vernon could save the home side from defeat.

At Kingspan Breffni Park, holders Donegal recovered from a 0-3 to 0-4 interval deficit to beat Cavan by 0-11 to 0-9.
